EDIT: I had a misunderstanding of how Damage Multipliers were calculated, thanks for the pointers.
Hey friends.
The first level of Damage Multipliers doesn’t do anything. Brilliance 1 and Might 1 do nothing, but Might 3 increases the DM by +2. So that’s weird. Looks like the way multipliers are implemented is just off.
Just as a reminder, Multipliers don’t stack, so if you have a Weapon +1 and Mighty +1, you’ll only see a +1 to your multiplier. But if you take Mighty 2 you’ll see a +2.
Damage Multipliers are equal to your Rank + the Powers; Mighty, Brilliance, Discipline and Accuracy (add the level of those powers to your Rank.)
Or if you are using weapons it will be your Rank +1 (for most weapons). Swords are +2 to the Damage Multiplier, and some newer weapons in the Avengers Expansion also add +2.
As said before, as a general rule Damage Multipliers Don’t stack (use the highest value). In the Avengers Expansion weapons made of certain materials may stack so check the rulings if the weapon is made from one of these rare materials.
When using the Powers; Mighty, Brilliance, Discipline and Accuracy, their designated number (eg, Mighty 2) is added to the relevant ability score for Non-Combat checks.
Example: If you are Rank 4, and your Melee stat is 5, and you have Mighty 3 - Your Damage multiplier will be x7 (Rank 4 + Mighty 3), the modifier to combat checks (damage bonus and the attack action check) will be +5 (Melee 5), and your non combat checks will be +8 (Melee 5 + Mighty 3).
That helped! I misunderstood how DM would be calculated. The error was assuming the attribute had something to do with it, when it’s actually the rank.
Your Ability does add to the total after you multiply your rank times the total multiplier: [M x (Rank + Bonus from Weapon or Power)] + Ability Modifier. So Rank 3 + Mighty 3 & Melee 5 = (MarvelDie x 6) + 5
Not entirely true. A Rank 3 character can have a 6 Melee. A +1 Multiplier bonus is minimum 2 and max 6 (12 with a Fantastic success, but the Ability score also gets doubled on a Fantastic success). So the flat bonus for the ability that you’re focused in is better than the 4 average from a single Power Slot (Mighty, etc.). It only ends up less important if you’re investing multiple power slots on improving the multiplier.
