It’s been a while since I did a post because we’ve settled in to using Demiplane such as it is and work around the limitations we feel.
Sky King’s Tomb (Thursdays) – Rounding out the end of Book Two, this adventure has advanced at a slower pace and I think that also has to do with how disjointed the adventure path feels. There’s no driving force or ticking clock, much as I’ve tried many times to build up that aspect, but session to session we’re having fun and that’s probably what matters most. Looking forward to Book 3 since it’s structured as pretty much a mega dungeon, and the sense of purpose should be much more clear than Book 2.
Season of Ghosts (Sundays) – We’ve managed to keep to IRL calendar sync… We started Summer (book 1) on the Summer solstice, Fall (book 2) on the Autumn equinox, Winter (book 3) on the Winter solstice, and recently Spring (book 4) on the Spring equinox. There’s not a lot of pressure to actually finish before summer solstice but I’m trying to pace it that way so it will be exactly a one year campaign. This adventure has much more compelling story beats and driving force moving the plot ahead than SKT and it’s been a blast to lean into the themes and memes (red moths) of the adventure.
I’m hoping to finish both SKT and SoG in about three months… and then:
Kingmaker (Sundays) – still gearing up for this one… planning stages coming together, but there’s going to be a lot of subsystems to track. It would be incredible if we could have a harrow deck like demiplane treatment for kingdom and army management but not holding my breath (basically building out that part in Owlbear Rodeo for our group). I’ll probably be posting more again when this campaign starts and we bring in some new players.
For the Thursdays followup campaign I’m hoping to hand it off to another player GM and take some time to be a player… I have a feeling we’ll be playing 5e for that one.
Anyway Demiplane feedback:
- Staying logged in is not as bad as it once was but some players still need to go through logging in each time
- Character sheets still very slow to load
- Character builder options still overwhelming since there’s no real filtering for unusable entries
- No homebrew options builder so as a GM I can only use officially supported stuff…
- Still no GM tools such as:
(a) a GM Core Screen or a custom screen that I can clip stuff to…
(b) an encounter builder to gather the stats of the monsters I’m using…
(c) GM’s can’t directly edit player character sheets - No shared rolls (… coming with Roll20 integration as the plan rather than build it here?..)
- No book by book content sharing ( I mean there’s a difficulty here to where as a GM I want to just share access to character options and stuff, without sharing the adventure content… )
- No new character sheet skins/designs (I thought there was talk of adding AP themed ones a while back)
- New content releases feel behind schedule?
And well, those are some of the issues that have been around for a while and I’ve mentioned before but all slightly larger projects I understand. Hmm… it just feels like the site has become a little “static” and maybe lost some energy, but maybe the stale feeling is on my end.
Anyway, I want to thank the Demiplane team for making this wonderful character builder and site. All the critical stuff aside, this is my favorite resource for playing my favorite game as both a player and a GM.
