Interesting thing I just saw with demiplane: if you use the getting schooled rules, even though you get a new ability point, you cannot use that ability point towards an ability score that is already at your current rank cap.
Contrast this to if you use the original rules of getting one big upgrade when going up a rank, where you would be able to use your ability points for any of the previously capped ability scores, since the rank cap went up.
Whether you can use ability points earned through getting schooled rules on capped ability scores is not covered explicitly in the X-Men book, but it seems a bit funny if Getting Schooled is mechanically more restricting than a normal rank up. As I understand it, it is meant to be the same game mechanic, just spread out instead of all at once.
