I’m fascinated by the Dedicated aspect of Orderborn communities. There are a ton of ideas that can serve as a foundation for a character’s values and moral code baked in there. But coming up with those can feel daunting. Here’s three examples I came up with. Please chime in with more.
Court of the True Fae
- Favor for favor, and debt for debt.
- There is no spirit of law, only its letter.
- Hospitality has its limits.
Small pastoral community
- The farmer has to be an optimist or he wouldn’t still be a farmer.
- Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.
- Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
Artist commune
- Art can act as balm or blade, choose balm when possible.
- Music should illuminate truth of the soul.
- Use your voice to bind communities together, not tear them apart.
Halfling community of hospitalers
- There’s always room for one more chair at the table.
- Lying to yourself is the deepest of cuts.
- A well-read mind can solve any problem in time.
