An update from our very own, Peter Romenesko!
- The Demiplane-Roll20 Integration is approaching Public Beta, bringing more character sheet support to more games.
- Public Beta will allow users to link Demiplane characters to new and existing campaigns on Roll20 for Pathfinder 2e, Starfinder 2e, Marvel Multiverse Role-playing Game, Cyberpunk RED, Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition, Alien: The Roleplaying Game, and Candela Obscura – with additional game systems arriving after Public Beta opens.
- The Roll20 Characters Pathfinder 2e Remastered Character Sheet will be archived at the launch of Public Beta.
Hello everyone! We announced the Demiplane–Roll20 integration back in January with the goal of bringing a host of new features and benefit to Players and Game Masters everywhere. To date, we’ve launched support for Cross-Platform Sync capabilities (buy content once, use in multiple places), Shared Subscription Benefits for Roll20 subscribers, and opened our Demiplane Character Integration into Public Alpha. Today, I have the great pleasure of sharing updates on our Public Beta Roadmap and what you can expect as we move closer to its launch.
What’s the Public Beta?
Once our Public Beta is live on the Roll20 Virtual Tabletop, players and game masters will be able to leverage a broad selection of Demiplane Character Sheets (more than the current Starfinder 2e Preview – see below for the supported game list at launch), and link Demiplane characters into existing Roll20 Campaigns on the Virtual Tabletop.
The goal of bringing Demiplane’s Character Sheets into Roll20 is an important step we kicked off earlier this year. Announced in January and launched in February, feedback from our Public Alpha has captured impressions about the underlying fundamentals of using Demiplane’s character sheets in the Virtual Tabletop environment. Examples of a key learning from the Public Alpha include the strong desire to have a greater number of character sheet fields available for the use of Macros and Modscripts that folks across the community are creating. We’ve taken steps to increase the available depth of character fields surfaced to users, and expect we will continue to do so for both Starfinder 2e and the other game systems being activated during the upcoming Public Beta.
As we launch the Public Beta, we are broadening the level of feedback we’re looking to collect: with over a half dozen Demiplane character sheets available on launch, we’re now seeking to collect game-specific impressions (in addition to continuing to collect thoughts of the more fundamental variety).
Day One Game Support
The below game systems will support the linking of Demiplane characters on Roll20 once we open into Public Beta:
- Pathfinder 2e
- Starfinder 2e
- Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game
- Cyberpunk RED
- Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition
- Alien: The Roleplaying Game
- Candela Obscura
Demiplane characters created on any of the above Nexus Platforms can be linked into Roll20, allowing them to be opened directly from the Roll20 Virtual Tabletop. Two game systems are missing from our Day One list: Darrington Press’ Daggerheart and Brotherwise Game’s Cosmere Roleplaying Game. The playtest period for both of these games has closed and are expected to launch digitally soon! This means you’ll see Daggerheart and Cosmere RPG sheets live on both Demiplane and Roll20 as a part of the official digital launch of both games.
Notably, the combination of announcement regarding Pathfinder Nexus’ integration into the Roll20 Virtual Tabletop and our support of Cross-Platform Sync means Demiplane’s Pathfinder 2e library is now available to all users throughout the Roll20 ecosystem. Along with this expanded access, the team made the thoughtful—though difficult—decision to sunset support for the Pathfinder 2e Remastered Character Sheet available to users through Roll20 Characters. Existing characters built using that sheet will remain accessible, but it will no longer be possible to create new characters with it. Importantly, this change does not impact the Pathfinder 2e character sheets available in the Roll20 Virtual Tabletop today—both the Pathfinder Nexus sheet and the original VTT sheet will continue to be supported for new and existing campaigns. This change will take place when we officially launch the Public Beta.
Public Beta When?!
We shared back in January that we were targeting a mid-Q2 date for the public beta. Based on what I’m seeing today, that estimate remains pretty accurate. I expect we’ll be back in a week or two with an official, locked in release date.
We are looking forward to bringing support for all these great games to each of your campaigns! If you want to catch-up on our journey to date, you can read more about the Demiplane–Roll20 integration, Cross Platform Sync, Subscription Benefits, and more in our blog posts here, here, here, and here.
See you at the table!
