The Secondary Weapon says “set active in the equipment section” but the only option for each equipment item is to select/deselect “active”, and that doesn’t add the weapon to secondary, only primary.
How do I add a weapon to the secondary category from the equipment section?
For context, I want to be able to switch back and forth between unarmed strike and hand runes; I’m playing a brawler and want to keep my unarmed strike benefit.
It seems like some weapons come pre-set as either primary or secondary, and hand runes are pre-set as primary weapons.
Weapons have either a Primary or Secondary type, and can only fit into the appropriate slot in equipment. Primary weapons also have a Burden, which is the number of hands it takes to wield. A Primary weapon with a Burden of 2 cannot be wielded with a Secondary weapon.
You only gain the benefits of Brawler’s “I am the weapon” feature when you don’t have any weapons equipped, so you cannot apply those benefits to a Hand Runes attack.
If you want to switch between being unarmed and having your Hand Runes equipped in the heat of battle, you can do so by marking a Stress.

So Hand Runes are a primary weapon with a burden of (blank). I should be able to treat unarmed strike as a secondary weapon. I could punch with hand runes while kneeing, kicking, elbowing, head-butting, hip-checking with my unarmed strikes.
No, you don’t get unarmed strikes while you are wielding weapons:
When your character makes an attack without a weapon—for example, a punch or a kick—you make an attack roll using Strength or Finesse (though the GM might allow you to use another trait depending on how you describe the attack). On a success, you deal d4 physical damage using your Proficiency.
and the Brawler feature specifically disallows use of your “I am the Weapon” features if you are wielding weapons:
While you don’t have any equipped weapons:
- You gain a +1 bonus to Evasion.
- Your unarmed strikes are considered a Melee weapon, use the trait of your choice, and deal d8+d6 phy damage using your Proficiency.
You don’t get the latter features if you have your Hand Runes (or any other weapons) equipped.
