The maximum points in one Ally is six

I wanted to ask a question. I’m able to create an Ally (Vampire: The Masquerade V5) with 4 points in effectiveness and 3 points in reliability, for a total of 7 points. But the rule says “The maximum points in one Ally is six.” Is that a bug?

Thanks for the report! Most likely it was left this way to allow for GM fiat if they decide to allow for an ally with more dots than normally allowed for some reason.

Hi! Thanks for the clarification!

I just wanted to check if there is already an option or setting in the character builder to enforce the rule from the V5 core book stating that “The maximum points in one Ally is six.”

Right now, the builder allows assigning more than 6 total points to a single Ally (combining Effectiveness and Reliability), so I was wondering if there is a toggle or rule-enforcement option that I might have missed — something like:

“Enforce Ally maximum points = 6”

If such a configuration doesn’t exist yet, that would be a great enhancement for storytellers who prefer strict rules.

Thanks again for the support!

There’s currently not a toggle to strictly enforce that but I don’t mind putting in a request for it!

Thank you so much! If you could open a request for that feature, I would really appreciate it.

I have one more question, if you don’t mind helping me unde

According to the rule “The maximum points in one Ally is six,” does that mean we can’t have something like a “Deadly Ally” with 4 points in Effectiveness and a “Reliable Ally” with 3 points in Reliability? That would total 7 points, which seems to go beyond the allowe

While I’m certainly not an expert on the rules for VtM5E that would seem to be the case, yes. Having both of those on a single ally bringing the points over 7 would be a situation I’d probably bring up with my storyteller to see if they’d allow as an exception. Assuming of course that I had a reason I could give them for wanting to do it.

Otherwise by the rules I’d say it’s likely not allowed.
