So Vampire just launched on another VTT and the adventure module Taste of the Moon is currently free along with Auld Lang Syne. Both also come with PDF downloads. Mind you, with the bundle I’m getting a discount here on Demiplane, but will we start to see titles show up here FIRST? As it stands the conversion time is still a few months between when a book comes out and when we get access to it here, and we don’t get a PDF (unless I’m mistaken) to peruse before the final product hits. What can we expect moving forward?
I’m a huge fan of both Demiplane and “the other VTT” you mentioned…but fan only, not an employee, so this isn’t any kind of official answer.
BUT,
Regarding PDFs, on that other VTT, only the 2 free adventures have PDFs, the regular source books do not. PDF availability is primarily controlled by the Publisher and/or the IP owner. Demiplane hasn’t ever had PDF download included with any of their stuff. The other company includes them when they are allowed to. I would love to see Demiplane offer a similar scenario, but in the case of V5 the best we could hope for is the free stuff anyway, which you can obtain the PDF for free directly from Renegade.
The vast majority of books have shown up on Demiplane before other VTTs. Foundry or Fantasy Grounds is still only minimally available and I don’t think the other has any official books. (I don’t really use either one of those, so I may be wrong.) Demiplane also does still have books one cannot get on any other Digital Tools or VTT. AND there are 2 books on preorder that you can’t preorder on Alchemy. Those two books are slated for release this month. The fact they were available for pre-order at the beginning of the month was because the community asked if it was possible (so that we could use that coupon at that time, in addition to our Bundle discounts.) They said yes and we got the preorder links early. The only book available on Alchemy that is not also available on Demiplane is “A Taste of the Moon”.
Also, in general, Demiplane is not a VTT at all. It’s a digital library and character tools. Alchemy and Demiplane may be in competition for my CC# but they both offer very different values for the $, so they both win. And, in my opinion, so do I.
Yes, I know I am a Demiplane apologist and an Alchemy apologist, depending on which server I’m on. But I use both tools in every game I run. And, if you see me in the Feature Request channels or the AMAs … You’ll see that I am also a patient, but persistent and demanding, fan.
(speaking of which: Mellie, when you read these, pretend I asked about H5 Character Tools, W5, V5 PDFs, and OpenAPI support. and here’s a substitute for the blood cry emoji: Just pretend it’s red instead of blue.)
I use both as well… and I guess the solution I’m hoping to see eventually is one wherein we get access to PDFs with pre-orders of the books. And that’s on Paradox most likely, but pressure on their partners is pressure back on them (I hope). As it stands, if I preorder a physical book, I get the PDF to peruse while waiting for my chosen format to arrive. I understand having to wait for the contents to be reformatted and programmed for the digital tool sets, and in that sense the wait is expected and fine. All that said, I was kind of sold on Demiplane being the “DnD Beyond” of other systems. That idea is still “in progress”, and as a Vampire fan, I hope Demiplane CAN become that. I’m also a “lifetime membership” subscriber on Alchemy, so I don’t mind seeing stuff pop up there too.
Hi there dorkgasm!
I love that y’all enjoy the Demiplane versions of VtM products. Currently, we’re only able to get products available as quickly as they’re made available to us. It is unlikely we’ll be able to offer products here ‘first’ for World of Darkness, as our friends at Renegade have a set time between initial digital release on their end, and digital release on our end.
We’re happy to continue to see what we can do to get titles more swiftly (I may have a personal stake, being a weekly VtM player myself…), and will continue to work with the wonderful folks at both Paradox and Renegade to use all of the opportunities available to us.
…
And since you asked so nicely, VampyreBytes:
- Hunter character tools: On the list, but not planned to be coming soon!
- Werewolf Nexus: We’d love to do it in the future, but nothing we can share right now!
- Vampire PDFs: It would be great to see those soon™…
- API: Our integration with Roll20 should help to build a foundation towards this potential, we’ll share more as that continues to form.
